OUR PROJECTS
From more than two decades of neglect, all schools in Lau - be they early childhood centres, primary schools, or secondary/tertiary institutions - need physical upgrading and re-equipping in order to bring them up to standards that would be considered ‘normal in developed countries. These include libraries, teachers’ quarters, and amenities blocks. Satisfactory water supply, sanitation, and electricity services are basic necessities to get through a school day which they are missing in Lau, generally, and need to be provided.
In line with its Board-adopted 5-year Strategic Plan, LECT will continue the process of inspecting all village schools already commenced, meeting with school committees and village elders and leaders then collaboratively preparing “needs lists” that will then form the basis of individual works scopes for each school project to be undertaken. Project priority will be determined where needs are more pressing than others, as deemed by the Boards of LECT Australia and Fiji.
FUNDING SOURCES FOR THIS PROJECT
The funding of our projects and equipping of schools will be undertaken within available LECT resources. They cannot proceed without funds and donated school equipment. The partnerships with all donors, small and large are hence essential for LECT’s viable operations. LECT’s funds and donated school equipment will be raised from the following sources
